Like it is in the Comics:

I have been in love with the idea of Superman’s ‘Fortress of Solitude’ ever since I first saw Byran Singer’s treatment of it in the 2006 film Superman Returns. The film is generally amazing, but the beautiful crystalline structures of Superman’s home away from the rest of the world left me craving my very own ice palace.

So when I saw this piece on Etsy, I just knew I had to have it.

The simplicity of the design itself matches beautifully with the rawness of the quartz crystals used in the construction, without detracting from their natural beauty or recontextualising them too thoroughly. And, for those with a bit of imagination, it should evoke the Fortress of Solitude inherently...

To best showcase the necklace I’m wearing:
black lambs leather Jacket – Claieborne by John Bartlett
black v-neck long-sleeved Top – Fluxus
white cotton Tank with ‘Poppy’ print – Alpha60
silver and quartz crystal ‘Fortress of Solitude’ Necklace – Girl Tuesday, Etsy
black leather Belt – Jag
light wash Bootcut Jeans – Industrie, thrifted
beaten up black leather Harness Boots – Slaters

It is very easy to start to feel overwhelmed and buried at work when you have some 2,500 colleagues in your building alone, generally dressing and talking and acting alike. I find that I try to exert my individuality generally through the way that I dress, as I have done for years now. Having my very own crystalline fortress hanging about my neck though, that is assurance and a cool, safe retreat from the masses, and it is worth its weight in gold.

Xx
